SpaceX is in talks to acquire Boost Mobile from EchoStar or gain access to its network, the Washington Post reported on Monday. Boost Mobile leases spectrum from AT&T and T-Mobile.
The negotiations center on SpaceX launching its own wireless service through a deal with EchoStar, according to people familiar with the talks. SpaceX aims to build a hybrid satellite-terrestrial mobile network through Starlink Mobile. The service would combine its satellite constellation with ground-based infrastructure to compete directly against AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile in the U.S. telecom market.
SpaceX and EchoStar declined to comment.
