Binance's finance chief Kaiser Ng is stepping down after more than five years at the cryptocurrency exchange to pursue another venture, the company announced Saturday. Ng has served as CFO since January 2022.

Justin Yek, most recently vice-president of finance at Airwallex, takes over as CFO. Binance implemented a transition plan over the last half year, according to co-CEO Yi He.

The leadership change arrives days after hackers stole $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance in what the exchange called a sophisticated attack that began months earlier. The breach unfolded on October 29 and started with malware in software downloads and fake job recruitment efforts targeting engineers, Binance said. The company committed to fully reimbursing affected customers.

The FBI blamed a North Korean hacking group for the theft. Pyongyang has denied the allegation.

Ng previously worked at rival crypto exchange Kraken.
